National Hotel Brand Neglects Medical Emergency of Guest, Resulting in Death

Our client knew something was off when her dad’s boss called her the morning of April 7, 2022. He told her that her father, who was supposed to call him at the end of a work trip to Denver, was unreachable, and missed his flight home to New York.

A Runaround at the Hotel

Her Dad’s boss called our client, urging her to contact the national hotel chain location he was staying at and ask for a wellness check-in on her father. When the front desk employee answered her call, she repeated what she had told her Dad’s boss and his boss’s wife.

“There’s nothing we can do,” the hotel front desk employee said.

“It’s against hotel policy,” she feigns.

“He’s fine,” she lies.

“Don’t worry,” she suggests, as she transfers our client to the phone in his room, which rings for an eternity before she leaves a message that goes unanswered.

After leaving 10 voicemails over the course of an hour to her Dad, the front desk employee agreed to call the police for a wellness check. The police show up and the hotel employee, in an effort to save face about the company’s neglectful behavior, starts explaining that her Dad was sleeping off a night of heavy drinking. She shared that our client’s Dad was an alcoholic. She said there was a “Do Not Disturb” sign on his door.

None of these claims were true. Footage reveals that there were two cans of something in his room, but it is not distinguishable what kind of beverage they were. According to friends and family, her Dad did not have a substance abuse problem. Body cam footage from the police revealed that there was not a “Do Not Disturb” sign on the door.

Missed Signs and Tragic Consequences

The front desk employee reporting that our client’s Dad had been “just sleeping it off” caused medics to respond with the lens that he had alcohol poisoning. Which they later learned was not the case.

The medical cause of his death—an intracranial hemorrhage—went untreated for nearly 19 hours. When the paramedics found him, he was still alive, but was unresponsive. Before the end of the day on April 7th, he passed away.
