Our Community Impact
On Friday, May 23, our team traded in our office gear for gardening gloves and joined forces with The Park People to plant 18 trees at Chaffee Park. We split into teams of 2–4 and spent the morning getting our hands dirty—each tree we planted had spent 2–5 years maturing before it was ready to go into the ground.
For over 50 years, The Park People have been working to green up Denver’s neighborhoods, especially those that are under-canopied. With over 60,000 trees planted and an estimated $122 million in annual environmental benefits added to our communities, their impact is deep-rooted and far-reaching.
We were guided every step of the way by The Park People’s amazing team, who made sure each tree was planted correctly and with care. A huge thank-you to them for their support and for letting us be part of this meaningful work.
And shout-out to Marcie for sparking this effort to offset our paper usage during trial prep—we love a good full-circle idea.
We can’t wait to return and see how our trees grow!
On Tuesday, March 12, our team volunteered at the Ronald McDonald House in Denver, preparing and serving a homemade Peruvian dinner for the families staying there. It was an incredibly rewarding experience that we will never forget.
Guided by two classically trained chefs, our team donned Ronald McDonald House aprons and got to work in the kitchen. Together, we prepped, cooked, and served a delicious meal featuring:
The flavors were rich, the food was amazing, and most importantly, it was prepared with tender hearts for families going through incredibly challenging times.
While serving dinner, we had the opportunity to connect with the families staying at Ronald McDonald House, each with their own unique and touching stories. One couple visiting from Ecuador was delighted to see fried plantains on the menu, a taste of home. A mother shared with us that this was the first meal she had been able to stomach since her child became ill, a moment that touched our hearts. Another father expressed his gratitude for the incredible food he’s enjoyed during his stay, saying he would miss it when he left.
As our shift came to an end, we had the chance to enjoy some of the leftovers, and we can confirm—the meal was absolutely delicious! More than that, though, we were honored to provide a moment of comfort and nourishment to families facing immense stress and uncertainty. We are grateful for the opportunity to support our community in this way and look forward to more volunteer opportunities in the future.
Giving back is at the heart of what we do, and we are so thankful to the Ronald McDonald House for allowing us to be part of such a meaningful experience.
The Ronald McDonald House (RMDH) Denver was the third house to open in the nation, and it continues to provide a home away from home for families with children receiving medical care. An impressive 75% of the house’s earnings come from donations, which help maintain its residential spaces, including 73 rooms, free shared kitchen spaces, and free laundry facilities.
While RMDH-Denver has provided fantastic amenities for families in need, there is always more that donations can help support. With the rise of virtual education, they are looking to invest in a business center where students can attend school remotely. Your support can make a difference—consider donating to RMDH-Denver today!
On Friday, May 31, 2024, our team had the privilege of volunteering at Clothes to Kids Denver for the second time in the past year. This organization has been making a significant difference in the lives of students in the Denver area, and we were thrilled to support their mission once again.
Clothes to Kids Denver operates with a noble mission: to provide new and quality used clothing to Denver area students from low-income or in-crisis families, free of charge. Their vision is clear – to ensure that all students have the clothing they need to feel comfortable, confident, and prepared to thrive. The organization achieves this by offering a boutique setting where students or their parents can “shop” for clothes, creating an empowering and dignified experience.
The significance of Clothes to Kids Denver’s work became even more apparent when we reflected on their recent milestone of providing their 100,000th school wardrobe to a shopper. This achievement highlights the profound impact they have had on the community over the years.
Our team from Dormer Harpring eagerly joined the effort to support this impactful cause once more. During our volunteer shift, we engaged in various activities to contribute to the organization’s daily operations. One of our primary tasks involved organizing clothing and bringing it out to the storefront, ensuring that the shopping experience for students and their families remains seamless.
We had the opportunity to connect with the staff, fellow volunteers, and the community, fostering a sense of unity and shared purpose. As we assisted donors in sorting clothes, we witnessed firsthand the generosity of individuals coming together to support a cause that truly makes a difference in the lives of students.
The atmosphere at Clothes to Kids Denver was not only productive but also heartwarming. The dedication of the staff and volunteers resonated with us, reinforcing the importance of collective efforts in addressing community needs. Every piece of clothing organized, every conversation had, and every moment shared contributed to a broader mission of empowerment and support.
Clothes to Kids Denver’s mission aligns with our values at Dormer Harpring – a commitment to creating positive change and providing assistance to those in need. We left the volunteer experience with a profound sense of fulfillment, knowing that we played a small part in supporting students’ access to essential clothing.
As we reflect on our time at Clothes to Kids Denver, we encourage others to explore ways to contribute to organizations that align with their values. Whether through volunteering, donations, or
advocacy, there are countless opportunities to make a meaningful impact in our communities. If you haven’t had a chance to do your spring cleaning yet, consider donating any gently used clothing to Clothes to Kids Denver. Your contribution can make a significant difference in the lives of students in need.
At Dormer Harpring, we are proud to have been part of this incredible initiative and remain dedicated to fostering positive change both inside and outside the courtroom. Thank you, Clothes to Kids Denver, for allowing us to be a part of your mission once again. We look forward to many more volunteer shifts ahead.
At Dormer Harpring, our commitment to community extends beyond the courtroom. On March 29, 2024, some of our team members had the privilege of volunteering with Project Angel Heart (PAH), a remarkable organization dedicated to providing nutritious meals to those battling severe illnesses across Colorado. Witnessing PAH’s unwavering dedication to their mission, which began in response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic in 1991, was truly inspiring.
As we joined forces with fellow volunteers, we delved into meal prep, chopping an impressive quantity of potatoes to ensure that every dish was tailored to meet the specific needs of its recipient. It was a humbling experience, knowing that our efforts would contribute to nourishing those who are fighting battles beyond comprehension.
PAH’s vision aligns closely with our values at Dormer Harpring. They believe that every Coloradan facing severe illness deserves access to nutritious food that not only sustains their physical health but also supports their overall well-being. Through their provision of medically tailored meals and advocacy for the principles of “Food is Medicine,” PAH exemplifies the transformative power of compassion and community support.
Reflecting on our time with Project Angel Heart reinforces our belief in the importance of giving back and supporting organizations that make a tangible difference in the lives of individuals and families facing adversity. At Dormer Harpring, we are honored to stand alongside PAH and other community partners in the pursuit of a healthier, more compassionate Colorado. Together, we can create a brighter future for all.

Learning About Project Cure:
Project Cure has become a beacon of hope for communities worldwide by accepting donations of medical supplies and equipment. These resources are meticulously sorted and shipped directly to the areas where they are most needed. During our visit, we were fascinated to discover that Project Cure has an entire wall dedicated to ready-made kits for different medical procedures and surgeries. This ingenious system expedites critical care for communities that require immediate assistance. Additionally, they have thoughtfully created giant first aid kit bags for travelers to take with them to these communities, further extending their impact.
Exploring the Warehouse:

As we contributed to the sorting process, we realized that our actions were directly contributing to saving lives and improving healthcare in communities across the globe. The feeling of making a tangible difference was truly indescribable.

If you haven’t heard of Project Cure, we highly recommend checking them out. This organization is actively transforming the lives of countless individuals and communities in need. Not only do they send essential supplies, but they also dispatch doctors and nurses to support local clinics and healthcare providers. We Don’t Waste: Combating Food Waste and Food Insecurity Together
Yesterday, we had the incredible opportunity to volunteer with We Don’t Waste at one of their local food markets. The experience shed light on a startling statistic: 40% of all food in the United States goes unsold or uneaten. This surplus food could make a significant impact on food insecurity, a problem that affects 1 in 3 Coloradans. In metro Denver alone, approximately 50 food apartheids exist, where historic and present discrimination has resulted in limited access to affordable, fresh, and nutritious foods. In this blog post, we’ll delve into We Don’t Waste’s innovative approach to tackling these pressing issues and share our firsthand experience volunteering at one of their mobile markets.
The Dual Solution: Fighting Food Waste and Food Insecurity:
We Don’t Waste has ingeniously found a way to address both food waste and food insecurity simultaneously. By recovering surplus food that would otherwise be discarded, they create mobile markets that provide easy access to fresh and nutritious foods for community members who lack such options. It’s important to note that We Don’t Waste doesn’t collect leftovers; instead, they focus on reclaiming food resulting from overordering or minor imperfections. As an example, at the market we volunteered for, students from Bruce Randolf School donated produce from their hydroponic garden, further amplifying the impact of the initiative.
Volunteering and Witnessing the Impact:
During our time at the mobile market, our task was to assist in setting up and distributing the recovered food. What we encountered left us utterly amazed. Pallets of food were ready for redistribution, demonstrating the vast quantity that We Don’t Waste rescues for those in need. Being a part of this process was truly an honor, and it allowed us to witness firsthand the immense impact that We Don’t Waste has on the community. The experience deepened our understanding of the issues at hand and motivated us to further support their cause.
Getting Involved with We Don’t Waste:
We Don’t Waste offers numerous opportunities for individuals to get involved and make a difference. Whether through volunteering at mobile markets, contributing to food recovery efforts, or supporting their initiatives financially, there are various ways to contribute to their vital work. By visiting their website, wedontwaste.org, you can explore the multitude of ways in which you can support We Don’t Waste’s mission.
Our volunteer experience with We Don’t Waste was a profound and eye-opening one. It shed light on the alarming levels of food waste in the United States and the staggering prevalence of food insecurity in our communities. We Don’t Waste’s innovative approach to tackling these challenges by utilizing surplus food for redistribution is both inspiring and effective. Witnessing the sheer volume of food that is rescued and repurposed for those in need left an indelible impression on us.
We strongly urge everyone to explore the incredible work being done by We Don’t Waste. By addressing the intertwined issues of food waste and food insecurity, they are making a tangible difference in the lives of countless individuals and communities.
