News: Man, 37, arrested for deadly DUI crash in Lakewood

LAKEWOOD, CO – A 37-year-old man operating a truck while impaired collided with a white Audi, claiming the life of the Audi driver and injuring the Audi passenger Wednesday. 

Lakewood Police said this collision happened before 6 a.m. when the 37-year-old man, later identified as Ilya Slavin, was traveling east on West Colfax Avenue when he crashed into the white Audi along Garrison Street. 

After arriving, officers said the Audi driver, later identified as 65-year-old Beth Bargas from Lakewood, died at the scene. Bargas’ passenger, a 47-year-old adult, was hospitalized for unspecified wounds. 

First responders took Slavin to Jefferson County Jail. He had been charged with DUI Vehicular Homicide and DUI Vehicular Assault and also faced several others.
