Through our preliminary investigation of this morning’s suspected DUI crash on I-70, the Wheat Ridge Police Department has recommended the following criminal charges against the suspect, 34-year-old Jian Chen:
To recap, the crash happened around 5:15 a.m. on I-70 East near Ward Road. Chen was driving on the wrong side of the road when he struck another vehicle head-on. The other driver died, and the toddler inside that struck the vehicle sustained unspecified injuries.
Criminal charges have not been formalized. However, police are recommending that Chen be charged with the following: “Vehicular homicide, Driving under the influence of alcohol, Driving a vehicle on the wrong side of a divided highway, and Failure to present evidence of insurance.”
The deceased victim’s identity has not been publicly announced.
