AURORA, CO – A 71-year-old man was arrested in connection with a hit-and-run collision that killed an 18-year-old man on Saturday, 9News reports.

The crash occurred around 9 p.m. The 71-year-old man ran over the 18-year-old man with his SUV in the area of East Colfax Avenue and North Sable Boulevard. Aurora police later determined that the young man was walking outside of a crosswalk when he was struck by the vehicle.

The 71-year-old man, later identified as Talal Maaliki, did not render aid to the young pedestrian and fled the scene prior to first responders’ arrival.

EMS crews rushed the young pedestrian to a hospital, where he later died.

Aurora police later found Maaliki and arrested him on “suspicion of leaving the scene of the accident.”

The 18th Judicial District Attorney’s Office said Maaliki may face more charges.

The Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office will disclose the victim’s name.

Our legal newsroom will issue updates, which include the victim’s name and additional charges, once the latest developments come to light.
