FRANKTOWN, CO – Five people, including a carjacking suspect, were killed in a collision that occurred on Highway 83 in Franktown on Monday.

Denver7 said the events began when the suspect, a 31-year-old man, had approached a woman driving a Toyota Matrix sedan, who was leaving the Nine Mile Station parking garage. He asked the woman for a ride, and she refused. The man forced the woman out of her seat and then stole the car.

As the suspect entered Franktown, he started to lose control of the stolen vehicle, which caused him to go onto the right shoulder. He overcorrected and came back onto Highway 83 near Russellville Road and crashed into a Ford sedan just before 4:45 p.m.

The suspect was thrown from the stolen car and died from his injuries.

The four people in the Ford sedan died from their injuries. A family member of the sedan occupants contacted Denver7 and identified the victims. Denver7 said the driver was a 35-year-old man. The passengers were two of his biological children and one stepchild. Two were 12, and one was 18.

The Douglas County Coroner’s Office will release the deceased after notifying their families.

The Colorado State Patrol Vehicular Crimes Unit started an investigation.
