AURORA, CO – One person was injured in a collision between a RTD A-line train and a white pickup truck on Tuesday, CBS News reports.
The crash happened before 10 a.m. near the intersection of Sable Boulevard and East Smith Road. Preliminary details from RTD reveal that the pickup truck driver was driving on the wrong side of the road and crossed the railroad tracks while the railroad crossing arm was down. Moments later, the approaching train crashed into the back of the pickup truck.
The pickup truck driver immediately fled the scene, driving away.
Among 50 train passengers, one person was hospitalized for minor injuries.
Officials shut down the area and requested a shuttle bus at the scene. During the closures, the train passengers were permitted to use the bus as a means of travel to the Central Park Station, Peoria Station, and 40th-Airport/Gateway Stations to get to their connecting or final destinations.
The RTD A-line train resumed services once closures were lifted and once the investigation was over.
Aurora police are actively searching for the fleeing driver. Anyone with more information is asked to contact officials at the phone number listed in the source.
