COMMERCE CITY, CO – First responders took a 22-year-old male suspect into custody following a hit-and-run crash that involved a woman dying from her injuries on Saturday.

The incident began when the suspect, Brandon Sargent-Zuniga, crashed his car into an RV, according to News9. Sargent-Zuniga fled the scene of that crash and went home, and changed vehicles.

Not long after, a Colorado State Patrol trooper pulled over Sargent-Zuniga for speeding in the area of East 74th Avenue and Colorado Boulevard. A woman, in serious condition, was found in the backseat of his car.

Paramedics conducted CPR on the woman, who, unfortunately, succumbed to her injuries. Officials did not reveal why the woman was in the backseat of Sargent-Zuniga’s car or confirm whether she was involved in the hit-and-run crash.

Sargent-Zuniga’s vehicle, which he drove when he crashed into the RV, was later found at his home.

Law enforcement took Sargent-Zuniga into custody. He is expected to face several charges, which include vehicular homicide and leaving the scene of an accident causing death.
